History of Our Parish
Welcome to the Homepage of the St. Peter’s Syriac Orthodox Church, Houston, Texas under the Malankara Archdiocese of the Syrian Orthodox Church in North America.
The parish was started on January 1, 2005 with St. Peter, the chief of the Apostles and the first patriarch of Antioch as the Patron Saint. The parish was formed by Syrian Orthodox families in the Houston area, under the leadership of our beloved vicar, Very Rev. Dr. Thomas Itty who was the former vicar of St. Mary’s Syrian Orthodox Church of Houston, who served for 23 years there.
Most of the members of St. Peter’s Syriac Orthodox Church are former members of St. Mary’s Syrian Orthodox Church of Houston. They left the mother parish and established St. Peter’s under the guidance of Very Rev. Dr. Thomas Itty.
Currently the congregation is gathering for worship every Sunday morning.
St. Peter’s is an active parish in the Malankara Archdiocese of the Syrian Orthodox Church in North America. The church has several spiritual organizations including the Youth and Women’s Leagues, Sunday School and Choir.
